It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, here’s what to do next

Especially at the moment, an hour might feel like a heavy time commitment, it’s worth considering especially because of the current climate it might be even more important than normal to find that time. This profound talk from the author of “Eat, Prey, Love” about anxiety, fear and grief in the current climate offers some hope and reflects on how to stay present. Some of the highlights I took away were:

  • “There is no more species more anxious than humans”, unlike most species we have such vast imaginations we can picture the future, and we often picture the worst.
  • Humans are great at adapting, while we create a great amount of anxiety thinking about the future, often when it comes we just get on with it.
  • The difference and importance of empathy vs. compassion.

The above resonate with a favourite quote of mine by Sceneca (sorry for the Greek philosophy), “We suffer more in imagination than in reality”, this is me all over, I spend a huge amount of time stressed and anxious because of what I ‘imagine’ and when it eventually comes, better or worse, it’s rarely that bad.
